The Street Maintenance Division is responsible for providing a variety of services and ongoing maintenance throughout the City. Supporting numerous special events and responding to after-hours emergency calls. During emergencies they respond by providing safety barricades as well as traffic control services during incumbent weather such as flooding and/or other unusual emergency conditions.

The section is divided into the following four subsections.

Street Maintenance

The primary goal of the Street Maintenance Services is to provide well-maintained public right-of-ways to insure the safe movement of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. They perform all of the ongoing maintenance issues, such as:

  • Asphalt maintenance – crack sealing, pothole and other asphalt repairs;
  • Concrete maintenance – curb, gutter, sidewalk, and various concrete repairs. (In accordance with the Streets and Highways Code, all Repairs of Sidewalks, Curbs and Driveways are the responsibility of the lot owner, or portions of lots, fronting on any portion of a public street shall clean, repair and maintain sidewalk areas);
  • Storm drain maintenance – storm drains and flood control systems; and
  • Right-of-way maintenance – weed abatement and road shoulders.

Traffic Safety

The Traffic Safety section is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all traffic control devices on City streets. This section maintains 70 signalized intersections, as well as all of the City’s regulatory, warning, guide and street name signs. They are also responsible for pavement markings such as all center line and lane lines, arrow/turn only symbols, RR crossing, school zone street markings, and pedestrian crosswalks maintained within the City. This section is also responsible for maintenance and repair of over 2,700 street lights on public streets.

To report traffic signal issues or regulatory/street name signs that have been vandalized, knocked down, illegible, or obstructed by landscape material, please contact us online or call (760) 391-4042.

To report a problem with street lights, contact IID at (800) 303-7756 or the IID website, and give them information on the location and any identifying markings on the pole. Please see this newsletter for more info.

To report a dust control complaint, please call 1-800-CUT-SMOG. Residents can also call IPD dispatch and they'll get the complaint to the Public Works monitor for resolution.
