Family Emergency Plan Form

When a disaster happens, your family is often your first thought. Being prepared can make all the difference. By being proactive, you can create a plan for how to contact each other, where to meet up, and what to do in different situations. This plan can also include what to do if you need to leave the area. Being ready for all possibilities ensures peace of mind for you and your loved ones.

Important information to remember:

  1. Choose an out-of-town contact for each family member to call. During big disasters, local phones might not work, but long-distance calls often do.
  2. Make sure everyone knows how to send text messages, as texting can work even when phone calls can't.
  3. Share contact info for emergency contacts with all family members, including addresses and phone numbers. Save your emergency contact as "In Case of Emergency" or “I.C.E.” in your phone, so rescuers can easily find it if needed.
  4. Save "Home" and "Work" numbers in your phone for easy access during an emergency.
  5. Involve your kids in planning for emergencies. Discuss the family plan together during meals.
  6. Post your Family Emergency Plan in an accessible place, like the fridge or a home bulletin board.
  7. Decide on a place where your family will meet after an emergency.
