The City operates under a City Council-City Manager form of government with five elected members of the City Council served by a City Manager and staff and City Attorney. The five Councilmembers are elected by district for four-year terms. Each year the Council selects the Mayor on a rotational basis and determines assignments for the external commissions and committees at its first meeting of December. The City Council is the legislative body for the City, Public Financing Authority and Redevelopment Agency. Among its responsibilities are establishing City policies, adopting of ordinances and resolutions as well as the budget, holding public hearings, authorizing expenditures and the appointment of the City Manager, City Attorney and the member of City commissions and committees.
City Council Meetings
On the first and third Wednesday of each month, City Council meets at 5:00 p.m. for ceremonial items, consent calendar and administrative items. Study sessions and closed sessions are typically scheduled before 5:00 p.m. so check the agenda for exact times. Open sessions are held at the Indio Council Chambers, 150 Civic Center Mall, Indio, CA 92201.
