The City of Indio is committed to maintaining the essential public safety services needed to keep our schools, parks, and neighborhoods safe — providing our community with the basic services they want and deserve.

Even in this challenging time, our fiscal prudence has allowed the city to weather the current fiscal emergency as a result of COVID and Sacramento takeaways, without cutting the basic services our residents have told us they value, in large part because of voter-approved local funding that cannot be taken by the state.

Tax dollars that stay local are used to address significant safety infrastructure needs – for 911 emergency response, drinking water, bridges and overpasses.

On July 21, 2021 the Indio City Council unanimously placed Measure E, the ‘City of Indio No Tax Increase Safety/Essential City Services Protection Measure’ on a November 2, 2021 Special Election Ballot. If approved by Indio voters, Measure E would extend the city’s current voter-approved 1-cent (percent) sales tax measure until ended by voters, allowing the City to address local public safety, fire, medical and emergency response needs and more, with funding that cannot be taken by Sacramento.

Measure E does not increase taxes, nor does it impose a new tax. It simply extends the current voter-approved 1-cent sales tax measure and places the decision to end it solely in the hands of the voters.

The accountability provisions of current voter-approved funding, including annual independent audits, and online expenditure reports available for public review, and citizens’ oversight and the prohibition on funds being taken by the State, will continue to apply.

All Registered Voters will receive a Vote-By-Mail Ballot permanently per AB 37.

This election is not countywide.

• Sept 29 – Voter Information Guides mailed out
• Oct. 4 – First day of early voting in the Registrar of Voters’ office and first day the registrar will mail vote-by-mail ballots to voters.
• Oct. 18 – Last day to register to vote or change political party preference for the Nov. 2 election.
• Oct. 25 – Last day the registrar may accept mailed requests for vote-by-mail ballots. After Oct. 25, voters must go to the registrar’s office to request and pick up a vote-by-mail ballot. Voters who have requested but not received a vote-by-mail ballot by Oct. 25 should contact the registrar’s office at (951) 486-7200.
• Nov. 2 – Election Day

Indio City Hall will serve as a Ballot Drop-Off Location during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.). In addition, City Hall will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, November 2 from 7am to 8pm for ballot drop-off only.

Election results will be released between 8pm and 8:30pm on election night.
