INDIO, CA (September 27, 2024) - The City of Indio is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the Tree for All - Public Green Space Grant from the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) to enhance the public green space at Miles Avenue Park by planting drought-tolerant trees. This project is a vital part of the City's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, water conservation, and improving public spaces for the community.

Through the generous support of the IID Public Green Space Grant, the City of Indio will plant 41 carefully selected drought-resistant trees, including Tipu trees and Indian Rosewood, both of which are well-adapted to the desert climate. These trees will not only beautify the park but also offer critical environmental benefits such as increased shade, improved air quality, and reduced water usage.

"The addition of these trees to Miles Avenue Park represents an important step in our efforts to create a sustainable, livable environment for our residents," said Mayor Lupe Ramos Amith. "This project aligns perfectly with our long-term strategy to enhance public spaces while addressing the pressing challenges of climate change and sustainability."

The Miles Avenue Park Public Green Space Project is a key initiative in Indio’s broader environmental strategy. The planting locations have been carefully chosen based on environmental assessments to ensure the trees will thrive in the desert climate and provide maximum benefits to the community.
