East Indio Hills Trailhead opening soon

A public ribbon cutting will celebrate new access to the popular trailhead

The public is invited to a ribbon cutting and opening celebration on March 20th at 9:00 a.m. to recognize safety and access improvements at the East Indio Hills Trailhead.

Currently construction is progressing at the trailhead on a project to improve parking, fencing, access and safety for the trails at the end of Golf Center Parkway and 42nd Avenue. The construction is made possible through a collaboration and funding by the Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy, Indio Water Authority and the City of Indio.

Although some people have bypassed the construction and parked along adjacent dirt roads, or biked in to the trail, that is not recommended. To ensure the safety of the public and accommodate heavy equipment for the project, the trailhead will remain closed through February 28, 2020. Please note that street parking is not allowed in the area.

Once improvements are complete, the trailhead will reopen and the public is invited to enjoy the trails, which are also known as the East Indio Hills Badlands. The approximately 5-mile trail was completed by the Friends of the Desert Mountains as part of a trails network in the Northern Coachella Valley.
