Indio Hosts Two Desert X 2019 Installations Plus Info Hub

Desert X 2019 is here and Indio is a large part of this bi-annual temporary art installation that runs now through April 21st, 2019. If you are looking for more information, visit the Desert X Hub located at 82-713 Miles Avenue in Downtown Indio. It is open Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Indio has two art installations that you do not want to miss!

"Wormhole" by Cinthia Marcelle
The Brazilian artist is examining the concept of economic desertion with representations of empty storefronts in Coachella Valley towns from Palm Springs and Indio to Tijuana. Viewers will see an exterior of one of the storefronts through a television monitor and then find a wormhole, or, “a shortcut through space and time” that will transport them to another location, addressing the close proximity of the Coachella Valley to Tijuana.

"Recapturing Memories of the Black Ark" by Gary Simmons
This sculptural installation that serves as both a literal and metaphorical platform for music and performance. Inspired by the Black Ark, Lee “Scratch” Perry’s famed Jamaican studio and the site of the birth of dub, Recapturing Memories of the Black Ark includes a series of speakers hand-built from vintage parts and wood scavenged from the Treme neighborhood of post-Katrina New Orleans. Each performer can reconfigure the speakers according to their needs. This exhibit is located in the former Indio Armory building and is open to the public for free on Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
