A prime 50,000-square-foot Indio location on Highway 111 that has stood vacant since Kmart closed will be home to a new supermarket chain this fall: El Super.
The market caters to Latino communities in the United States and is operated by Mexico-based Grupo Comercial Chedraui which has El Super grocery stores in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas.
“The new El Super is a great addition to the former Kmart property and it will bring much needed foot traffic to the adjacent retailers as well as create new jobs,” said Carl Morgan, Economic Development Director for the City of Indio.
El Super will become the new anchor tenant at the Town & Country Center, which will draw an increasing number of customers to the plaza.
The chain more than doubled its footprint in March with the acquisition of Fiesta Mart, a Texas-based supermarket group. Combined, the group now has a total of 122 supermarket locations.
El Super will add new jobs in the City of Indio by employing 100-125 people.,.
