Mark your calendars now – the Tachevah Music Showcase makes its move from Palm Springs to Indio in its sixth year. The event, which is put on by the Desert Sun and sponsored by the City of Indio, seeks the best emerging artists from the Coachella Valley and beyond for a season-long showcase of talent. It will culminate in live performances at the Indio Block Party on Saturday, May 5th, in Downtown Indio.
The first Tachevah Music Showcase was conceived as a fun event in between the two Coachella weekends, and a chance for locals to see a Coachella act for free. It was also a celebration of the local music scene, with several local acts selected through the video/showcase process used today serving as opening acts for the headliner.
The Desert Sun initiated the event as part of its commitment to supporting and fostering the burgeoning arts scene in the Coachella Valley – lifting up these artists and offering them exposure to the wider community and industry insiders who can make a huge difference in their careers.
With dozens of original videos pouring into the Desert Sun from musicians from the Coachella Valley, the High Desert, the L.A. area, San Diego and beyond this past winter – the Desert Sun turned voting over to the fans on February 9th. The top 8 vote-getters plus two curator’s picks advanced to the semi-finals. Semi-finalists advanced to several showcase concerts staged at premier music venues across the desert in the lead-up to festival season in the Coachella Valley.
On May 5th, finalists Giselle Woo and the Night Owls, Razor J (whose real name is Juan Espino), Victor Bosc and Eevaan Tre will compete at the Indio Block Party for a grand prize of $3,000.
“Indio is the epicenter of this young, vibrant artistic community, and that’s why we feel very strongly about having the final showcase in the downtown setting, for free, so the entire community can celebrate,” said Kate Franco of the Desert Sun.
The Indio Block Party will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on May 5th in Downtown Indio, and admission is free. The event is an annual celebration of the vibrant spirit, rich culture, and strong community that exists within the City of Indio. Enjoy outdoor live music, a beer garden, food vendors, a car show, art installations, a mural tour, a kid’s zone and roaming entertainers.
