The Desert Sun has announced that the City of Indio will sponsor the 2018 Tachevah showcase series, which is moving to Indio from Palm Springs.
The Tachevah finals, with a $3,000 prize to the winning band on the line, will be held at the Indio Block Party on Saturday, May 5.
In its sixth year, The Desert Sun’s Tachevah showcase series has been a major springboard for Southern California musicians during the Coachella Valley’s high-profile music festival season.
Winners and finalists have gone on to play at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, landed recording opportunities and video-production deals, and won cash.
To date, The Desert Sun has received 48 original videos from musicians from the Coachella Valley, the High Desert – as well as the L.A. area, San Diego and beyond – which present their artistic vision.
The Desert Sun turns will it over to the fans on February 9, who – for one week – will vote on the band/artist they most want to advance to the semi-finals. Fueled by The Desert Sun’s and the bands’ social channels, this voting frenzy attracts significant engagement with music lovers across the region.
The top 8 vote-getters plus two curator’s picks advance to the semi-finals. Semi-finalists advance to several showcase concerts staged at premier music venues across the desert in the lead-up to festival season in the Coachella Valley.
Showcase 1 will be held Thursday, March 15, at Pappy + Harriet’s, and Showcase 2 will be at The Date Shed in Indio Thursday, March 22.
The Desert Sun enlists music industry heavy-weights to judge the performances and awards preliminary prizes. The winners advance to the finals to vie for the grand prize on May 5.
In 2017, Rancho Mirage-based act “Shawn Don” took the grand prize, and in 2016, Palm Desert-based “brightener” walked away with $3,000 and the other finalists with other cash prizes.
Voting is now open at Tachevahmusic.com/vote
