Major milestone for the CV Link in Indio

A major milestone was reached in September on the CV Link project as the concrete was poured for a bridge that links the Cities of Indio and La Quinta at Promontory Point. The bridge will pave the way for bicyclists, pedestrians and low-speed electric vehicles to safely travel between the two cities and connect to points throughout the Coachella Valley.

Construction of the Indio & La Quinta bridge began in late March of this year and is expected to be completed in early 2022. The bridge links the cities of Indio and La Quinta, allowing users to cross over the stormwater channel to Promontory Point, a signature access point to the CV Link that provides shade, seating and a lawn area.

Ultimately, Promontory Point will also be where people can connect with the planned Arts & Music line, another active transportation project that connects people to Avenue 48 and destinations such as the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals at Empire Polo Grounds.

CV Link has been in the works for years, but this phase of construction is the largest to date. The multi-modal transportation corridor will provide significant environmental, public health, and economic benefits to generations of current and future residents and visitors to our Valley.

The 40-plus mile, multi-modal pathway can accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists and low-speed electric vehicles such as golf carts across much of the Coachella Valley. About 3.5 miles of the project have been previously constructed in the cities of Cathedral City and Palm Springs. In October 2020, CVAG authorized contracts worth almost $53 million to fund the current stage of construction, which includes work in Indio as well as the cities of Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta and Coachella, as well as unincorporated Riverside County.
