AVENUE 46 TO BE CLOSED AT ALL AMERICAN CANAL FOR SEWER PROJECT
Four-week Closure will Cause Traffic Disruptions from August 14 to September 8
INDIO, CA (August 11, 2016) – Valley Sanitary District has announced a hard closure on Avenue 46 between Madison Street and Clinton Street from Monday, August 14 to Friday, September 8 to perform sewer main construction work for the Requa Sewer Project. Traffic control will be in place 24-hours a day.
Parents with students going back to school at Indio High School, Madison Elementary School, JFK Elementary School, and Indio Middle School will not be able to use Avenue 46 between Madison Street and Clinton Street. Limited access for residents will be maintained but all other motorists must use alternate routes such as Miles Avenue and Highway 111. Access for emergency vehicles will be also be affected.
The Requa Sewer Project is the installation of a four-mile gravity flow sewer pipeline and related utility improvements from central Indio to the Valley Sanitary District’s (VSD) Water Reclamation Facility. Construction began in June 2016 at VSD’s treatment facility and will end in December 2017 at the intersection of Madison Street and Highway 111. The cost of the project is $15 million and will add capacity for the future commercial growth and development of the City of Indio along the Highway 111 corridor.
